I joined the team in November 2021 after 10 years in the private healthcare sector. Living locally, I was familiar with David Owen and their outstanding reputation and so jumped at the chance of applying when a role became available. I love my role as it is so varied – a mixture of supporting and building relationships with our clients – but also helping out behind the scenes supporting the team and the running of the practice. David Owen fully supports and values their staff, the evidence is clear when the longest standing member has been here for 52 years…and counting!

Accounts Clerk (AAT trainee)

My accountancy journey began in 2018 in the finance department of a manufacturing business, having loved Maths at school. I switched from industry to practice at the start of 2021 and am currently studying AAT through an apprenticeship program. Having successfully completed Levels 2 and 3, am now at the end of Level 4 and plan to go on to study ACA. As one of the younger employees at the start of my career, the team at David Owen have been nothing but helpful and supportive, helping me increase my knowledge on-the-job, as well as supporting my studies. There is a clear career path within the business and I get constant feedback and support to help me grow and develop. The size of the firm means my role is varied – giving me exposure to all different sorts of jobs, clients and team members and I really enjoy the regular team socials!

I joined David Owen in June 2021 from a well-known local financial services company and am currently studying for my ACA qualification, funded by David Owen through the level 7 apprentice scheme. I get regular support from my colleagues and manager which has helped me pass every exam (….so far!). The team at David Owen are very close knit and everyone goes out of their way to help and make sure you are supported - this has really allowed me to thrive in my role. And because David Owen offers a wide range of services to clients - from audit to personal tax to VAT – there is always something new to sink your teeth into. This also helps me apply my accounting studies to real working situations.

Senior Accountant

After completing Business and Economics A levels, and having always been interested in business and finance, Accountancy was the perfect career choice. I joined David Owen in June 2014 from another local accountancy firm and started studying for the AAT qualification. The qualification gave me the fundamental knowledge and skills required to carry out a variety of accounts and tax-based work, as well as bookkeeping. I then went on to study ACA in Bristol. All exams have been paid for, and I’ve had ample paid study leave to focus fully on the courses. David Owen is a very supportive and friendly organisation. The firm invests heavily in developing its people and is fair and flexible, enabling a good work/life balance. Above all I love the variety of my role – supporting many different clients who differ in size and industry - including construction, retail, education, leisure, hospitality and many more.

Olga Sands

I started working in the accountancy industry in 2007 after completing a Finance and Accounting Masters degree. I joined David Owen soon after as an Accountant and went on to study ACCA, funded by the firm. I was recently promoted from Senior Accountant to Client Manager and now look after a portfolio of clients, support one of the partners in the running of their portfolio and also lead and support a team of people. David Owen has a real family atmosphere, the team are very friendly and are all fun to work with.

Joe Bunton

Partner

I joined David Owen team straight from school in 2007 as an Accounts Clerk (AAT trainee). The firm funded every step of my qualification and provided me the support and time I needed to progress. I later went on to study as a Chartered Accountant through the ACA qualification and steadily progressed through the firm until I was promoted to Partner in 2018. I now oversee a diverse and interesting portfolio of clients whilst supporting and leading the next generation of apprentices. I have been fortunate to have had the support and opportunities I needed to develop my career. Being made Partner at the firm where I started my career as a trainee speaks volumes about how David Owen invests in its people.
